Robotics and sensing

Preserve what a drone observed. Test continuity when the sensor goes offline.

Drone Immortality is Tectivum’s field-demonstration research project for preserving the scene and sensor signals captured before a device loses connectivity. The proposed drone, rover, and fixed-site demonstrations retain local recordings, support exact replay, and test a bounded model of the last observed scene. Any modeled continuation is labeled as prediction with its age and uncertainty; new measurements are required to establish updated observations. The project applies the Sensor Observation Continuity research direction to physical sensing and edge systems. Hardware assembly, software integration, and measured field validation remain development work.

The research question

How can an edge sensing system preserve useful observations and clearly distinguish replay from prediction during a loss of connectivity?

Research workstreams

A question. A method. A test.

Observation capture

Capture and preserve measured sensor signals with timestamps, provenance, and local recording.

Continuity demonstrations

Design drone, rover, and fixed-site experiments that compare exact replay with bounded modeled continuation.

Reconnection and uncertainty

Reconcile new measurements after reconnection and expose prediction age, uncertainty, and the boundary of unknown state.

Evidence priorities

Make progress measurable.

The initiative is framed around testable questions. Its research direction should be assessed against observed evidence and the limits of each experiment.

  • Recording integrity and exact replay after a controlled network interruption
  • Prediction error and uncertainty as the last observation becomes older
  • Reacquisition behavior and clear separation of measured, replayed, predicted, and unknown state

Research goals and proposed mechanisms are not established findings. Product-linked tracks describe the research behind a capability, rather than a claim that its hypotheses have been validated.
