Chronicle research addresses how an agent system can preserve an inspectable history of what changed and why. The reference design normalizes mission, control, cognition, world-state, learning, and runtime transitions and seals snapshots in a linked integrity record. The open research problem extends beyond storing logs: evidence must remain interpretable through recovery, turnover, and federation while minimizing sensitive payloads. Chronicle commitments and verification metadata should remain separate from raw content and access-controlled evidence.
